Doug Sulman is recognized and respected for his advocacy skills, not only in the courts and tribunals of Ontario, but in industry and the local community. With his background as a Lawyer, Business Executive, and Municipal Councillor, Doug has developed a multifaceted approach to the practice of Law. Doug’s practice is principally focused on Business Law, Civil Litigation, Wills and Estates, and Real Estate Transactions.
Prior to returning to private practice, Doug held several senior positions at public companies. Doug was a Vice-President with Union Gas Limited, was the President of Mercap Insurance Ltd. of Bermuda and was Vice-Chairman of St. Clair Pipelines Ltd.
Born and raised in Chatham, Doug is a graduate of John McGregor Secondary School. Doug earned his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Political Science and his LL.B. at the University of Western Ontario and was received his call to the Bar in 1979. Also, Doug completed the Advanced Finance Program at McGill University’s School of Business and the Executive Business Administration program at Queen’s University School of Business.
While not in the office Doug is very involved in his community. Doug has been a Chatham–Kent Councillor for since 1998. Prior to the amalgamation of Chatham-Kent, Doug served as a City of Chatham Alderman for 12 years and a Kent Country School Trustee for three years. Doug has served as the Vice-President of the Kent Bar Association, Police Commission Chairman, President of the Chatham Rotary Club, Director of the Heart and Stroke Association, Library Trustee and is a member of the Canadian Bar Association. Doug currently resides in Chatham-Kent with his wife Lynn and three children.
The Government of Canada recognized Doug’s legal skills in the Federal Courts and Tribunals by granting him the lifetime designation as Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.). Doug was named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International.
When addressing his client’s legal issues Doug draws on his substantial experience and skill to find an effective and efficient solution.
